With over thirty-two years of experience in architecture, Allen has worked on a wide range of institutional, residential, and commercial projects. As the principal of Allen Ross Architecture, he leads a broad practice that includes diverse projects from campus master plans to single family residences.

Before starting his own firm in 2012, Allen was a partner at Dodaro-Ross Architects, LLC, based in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, where the firm earned a 2011 AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Honor Award, a 2010 HOBI award, and a 2011 Connecticut Preservation Award.  From 1994 to 1999 he worked at Roth and Moore Architects in New Haven, Connecticut on various institutional projects, including the award-winning Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale University (AIA Connecticut 1997 Design Award) and the Vassar College Class of 1951 Observatory (AIA Connecticut 1998 Design Award).  While there, Allen was the project architect for work at Yale University, the University of Connecticut, and the New Haven public schools.

Prior to Roth and Moore, Allen was a project manager for Melanie Taylor Architecture and Gardens in New Haven for house designs at planned neotraditional communities in Florida, Arizona, and the Bahamas.  Allen’s work there included projects involving Witold Rybczynski and Duany Plater-Zyberk.  Allen interned at Yale’s Facilities Planning and Construction Office on renovations to James Gamble Rogers’ Trumbull College and Eggers and Higgins’ Silliman College.  Directly upon graduating from Parsons School of Design, Allen worked at Zebra Design, Inc. and independently on product designs for companies such as Formica Corporation, Clairol Inc., and Deskey Associates, Inc.  He became an Associate Partner at Zebra Design in 1988.
