Harlem, NYC | The Harlem Children’s Zone asked Allen Ross Architecture to help them explore options for an existing facility that was experiencing program changes and was in need of renovations. With a mix of office spaces, classrooms, and other specialty spaces including a Dance Studio with a Locker Room, an A/V Room with an Isolation Recording Booth, a Teaching Kitchen, and a large Multi-Purpose Room, there were many functions slated for the limited space. In close coordination with HCZ’s program directors, a design was approved. Initial pricing was received and it was determined that the project scope would need to be reduced. ARA conducted a successful Value Engineering phase to meet HCZ’s needs and budget. Viable bids were procured and evaluated, the project was prepared for filing and construction sequencing was coordinated with the building management. The project was put on hold as alternate project sites were considered.
