Scarsdale, NY | Allen Ross Architecture developed a preliminary design for a new multi-purpose pavilion at the recently renovated Scarsdale Public Library. It was to provide a covered space for a myriad of outdoor activities, including children’s reading time, gatherings, and movies, among others.
The new structure was to be aesthetically harmonious with the modernist style of the 1970s and 2020 renovations. A thin columnated structure enhances the openness of the pavilion and along with the shallow roof give a sense of lightness. The natural wood slotted ceiling adds a feeling of warmth and allows for acoustic treatment to make the space more comfortable.
